August 26th, 2025. FE Technologies adds Product Longevity Assurance Clause to their Environmental Policy

August 26th, 2025
FE Technologies, a leading provider of RFID solutions for libraries, has added a Product Longevity Assurance (PLA) Clause to the FE Technologies Environmental Policy, underscoring its long-standing commitment to the sustained operability and reliability of library RFID systems.

Unlike many technology providers, FE Technologies has never declared any of its RFID products end-of-life, maintaining a steadfast dedication to minimizing disruption for libraries and maximizing the value of their technology investments. The new PLA Clause codifies this approach, offering clear procedures for proactively managing aging components while supporting continuous library operations.

“Libraries rely on technology that is not only innovative but also dependable over time,” said Andrew Powell, General Manager, Director of FE Technologies. “This policy ensures that we remain a long-term technology partner, focused on sustaining our products and supporting libraries through every phase of the technology lifecycle.”

What the PLA Clause means:

  • Operating System Upgrades: When an operating system is no longer supported, FE Technologies works with libraries to upgrade to a compatible, supported version. In cases where hardware replacement is needed, the company’s R&D team ensures compatibility with existing product housings—an especially critical consideration for integrated systems like self-loan kiosks and book sorters.
  • RFID Reader Replacement: For RFID readers reaching end-of-life, FE Technologies proactively identifies and implements upgrade paths that preserve product functionality and interoperability across all RFID platforms.
  • Component Replacement: When other components such as barcode scanners, printers, or touchscreens become obsolete, FE Technologies endeavors to source equivalent replacements to ensure uninterrupted service.
  • Scarce or Unreplaceable Components: In rare cases where components are no longer manufactured and have no modern equivalents, FE Technologies seeks alternatives via recycled or refurbished sources. While service in these cases is offered on a best-efforts basis, customers are kept fully informed to manage expectations responsibly.

As part of FE Technologies’ broader sustainability initiatives, the PLA Policy has also been formally added to the company’s Environmental Policy, reinforcing a commitment to reducing waste, extending the lifecycle of technology, and supporting environmentally responsible operations across the library sector.

By adding this long-standing philosophy into a transparent and customer-centric policy, FE Technologies continues to affirm its role as a trusted RFID partner to libraries across the USA, Australia, New Zealand, Europe and Asia.
